St. Louis, MO — The Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI) is pleased to announce a new round of its Planet Fellowship program, aimed at advancing innovative research using Earth observation data. Supported through its partnership with Planet Labs PBC (NYSE:PL), a leading provider of daily data and insights about change on Earth, the initiative highlights TGI’s commitment to fostering the next generation of geospatial researchers and promoting geospatial solutions for global challenges.
Four outstanding post-graduate researchers from TGI consortium institutions were selected through a competitive application process for the Planet Fellowship program. Submissions were assessed within the following categories: innovation in geospatial science, societal impact and relevance, project design and feasibility, and effective use of Planet data.
Scholars, including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, from TGI consortium institutions were encouraged to apply with information about how they are using Planet satellite imagery to generate new insights, and how the fellowship support will strengthen their work to address critical issues including food systems and security, the built environment, and disaster response, among other fields. The Fellowships are made possible through generous financial support from Planet.
“TGI’s partnership with Planet empowers researchers with access to advanced Earth observation data and tools,” said TGI Interim Executive Director Elliott Kellner. “We couldn’t be prouder of this cohort of incredible fellows, and can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish as they leverage and explore Planet data and tools across a wide range of applications and industries.”
The Planet Fellowship program underscores TGI’s commitment to accelerating the St. Louis region's development as a global geospatial center of excellence by creating a world-class, interdisciplinary, geospatial science research collaborative to address significant scientific and societal challenges.
